I had completed my response and before I could click we lost connection with our server. Sorry.
Todate our mind set hasn't changed. Hardly they can come to terms with the fact that grief is something internal. There is no need of external manifestation which drastically changes a woman's exterior.
I don't want things to happen. God forbid. If I have to succumb to such an unfortunate thing I will not do things the way the society wants me too which is irrational.
I sympthise your granny who had to really suffer. I can feel her agony. Poor lady. Soon I shall be back again with my blogs in Sulekha.

Your post reminds me of the book'On Marriage and Morals by Bernard Shaw. He speaks in defence of them on the grounds that it has been of much relief to other women in the society in keeping up their morality status. This ledas to the question- What is morality? Same role, process within the societal norms, approved by the society gains respectability.
unfortunately some of us fail to understand that of the so called women had chosen this out of compulsion or by force.
But of late it is shocking to see ladies from higher bracket income turning this activity as hobby or means to satisfy their selfish ends. kanaka

Dear Shri Damankar,
There are certain traits atributed as characterstics of some Nationality. WE say by nature Germans are hard working. Britishers maintain some espectabilty. I think these run as traits. Good and bad is a relative term.
Some pepole appreciate Shiv Sainiks in Maharashtra. Ask some of the Mumbaikars. They would say but for the Shiv Sena life would have been terible!
Others consider them as anti social elements.
Time and existing conditions are a determining factor in stating things.
